Explore Shoreditch as you have never done before

Shoreditch businesses invite the Digital Shoreditch community to visit their studios, wander through their spaces and discover their world, create new connections, gain and share new ideas, and tempt their creative juices!

Covering a wide spectrum of topics, and in the formats of showcases, hands-on workshops, parties and networking, the Open Houses are aimed at a wide spectrum of creatives, techies, entrepreneurs and businesses that would like to discover and connect with new companies within the Tech-City Hub.

Week 1 21st May to 27th May

Making Interactive Music Apps for iPhones & iPads

Tues 22nd May

The course will guide you through the initial design stages of an audio processing app, and will then introduce you to a powerful music-making toolkit for iOS. The course will then guide you through the steps required to make an iPhone play beautiful marimba sounds, and then show you how to implement Gesture Recognizers to easily control the instrument. By the end you will have a fully-working handheld marimba, as well as the knowledge and the code needed to start building a beta version of the app.

ConnectedUK – AUDIENCES

Tues 22nd May

Audiences, where would we be without them? Now that audiences are watching on multiple screens, what are they doing on their phone while they watch TV? How can we accurately measure their activity? Our next evening of thought provoking speakers will explore the changing nature of the people that watch us.

Ticket price: £25 per event for members (UKIE, PACT, BIMA, IPA) / £50 per event for non-members.

Create a 30-Second Jingle in 30 mins at Hoxton Works!

Weds 23rd May

Working with artists, working to a brief and a tight deadline could be a new experience for you or perhaps one that you could benefit from seeing in a new light? Create a 30-second jingle in 30-minutes! Co-create in competing teams with composer Stuart Wood; rhyming words and making music to create a commercial, in half an hour! Then see it come to life by a troupe of musical theatre actors.

Digital Shoreditch & Figtalks – an ‘un’conference evening of short talk inspiration

Figtree is delighted to be part of Digital Shoreditch Week and is hosting an ‘un’conference evening of short-talk inspiration on Wednesday 23rd May.

Curated by James Hust (head of digital at Figtree Creative Network) we invite you to explore, push, dig, tweak, hack, kick, create and collaborate with topics ranging from ‘man machine’, ‘I created it, who owns it?’ and ‘The Hacker Ethos’. Each talk will last 10 minutes (or less).

Welsh Valley Roof IV’ Networking Event

Join Atticus Finch on their great sunny balcony for drinks and food. We will show case a selection of work including our recent visuals for Snow Patrol’s Fallen Empires tour. We will also be giving our guests the opportunity to marvel at our ‘Welsh Valley Roof IV’ installation piece.

The meetup will focus on how the sale, supply, production and review of is being influenced by the digital technology. Surface_Digital Momentum

Surface Architects are exploring curved surfaces, deep spaces and interactive objects. Displaying architecture to the Street, Surface with Vlad Tenu and Momentum Engineering invite the inquisitive to reflect with us on conditions of complexity and potential.

Rewire High5: finding the sweet spot between design, digital and business

Digital media is the driving force behind many new ideas. Design makes a good idea engaging. Business helps an idea to thrive. But finding a way for technology, design and business to meet in the middle can be challenging. Rewire High5 brings together 5 speakers from diverse industry sectors to share their experiences of how they have successfully (and unsuccessfully) combined the three areas.

Silicon Drinkabout

Silicon Drinkabout is a regular after work drinks for startups every Friday ’round the Silicon Roundabout! Founded by Mind Candy, and organised by @Digital_Sizzle, Silicon Drinkabout is open to startups of all sizes as a place to meet like-minded people, have some fun and relax after another busy week in ‘Tech City’.

To help keep our buzzing little community growing, we’ve also partnered with the team over at Digital Sizzle to support their quarterly networking BBQs for all digital and creative types – after all, everyone loves a good BBQ!

qMedia Open Studios

qMedia invites you to the reception for the second annual Open Studios event on Friday 25th May between 5 and 10pm – drinks will be served. Openstudios continues on Saturday and Sunday.

Open Studios is a showcase of creative research and technology, including performances, exhibits, installations and hands-on activities. Highlights include new musical instruments, 3D audio in our ambisonic studio, interactive video and touch tables.

Open Studios runs all weekend at Queen Mary, University of London: Friday 25 May, 5-10pm: opening reception Saturday 26 May, 12-6pm Sunday 27 May, 12-6pm Please join us at the Engineering Building (Mile End Road near Bancroft Road, E1 4NS). Inition ‘Future of 3D’ Open Studio for Digital Shoreditch Festival

Forum for the Future Open House

At the Technology Strategy Board (TSB) we invest billions of pounds a year to promote and enable innovation in the UK. But the world is changing fast, and we believe that to keep the UK economy competitive in the long term, we need to put sustainability at its heart.

So now we need your help. We’ve been working with leading sustainability non-profit Forum for the Future to build a framework for a sustainable economy. We now want to turn that into a digital tool that will help UK businesses innovate better, and the TSB to make better investment decisions.

Come and collaborate with us. The best ideas will be taken forward by the TSB to build the tool in 2012

Digital Innovation Contest – TV & Film, Pitching event

IC tomorrow has launched a £300,000 contest to stimulate innovation in the TV and film industry with support from eight leading content and charity partners: Lionsgate, Virgin Media, FremantleMedia, RNIB, National Geographic, Zodiak Active, Hat Trick Productions and Rovi Corp.

The contest is now closed and the finalists will be pitching their innovative ideas on the 31st of May in a full-day event that will take place during the Digital Shoreditch Festival.

Over 30 companies will also be showcasing their products and services across a range of digital media.
